Dear SPP-Colleagues,
With the days stretching longer and the scent of summer in the air, spring is making its final bow.
Before we settle into the summer months, there are still a few highlights to look forward to: Join us for the RÖKO Lunch Meeting in Wiesbaden and don’t miss your chance to sign up for the Summer School in Freiburg – two great opportunities to connect, recharge, and share ideas.
Also in this issue: a look back at our Midterm Meeting, workshops on writing and visual storytelling, warm congratulations to Prof Daniel Rückert and a new collaboration with RACOON.
Happy reading – and we hope to see many of you again soon!
All the best, Your coordination team |

Heading to the RÖKO? Join us for the SPP Lunch Meeting on Wednesday, 28th May, at Jo’s Weinbar, right in the RMCC. This informal get-together is a great opportunity to take a break, enjoy good food, and connect with fellow researchers – not only from the SPP, but also from other partner projects and initiatives present at the congress. Whether you're looking to exchange ideas, catch up with colleagues, or simply meet new faces, we’d be glad to see you there. To help us plan, we kindly ask you to register via our website. Registration is not required but appreciated. (Image credit: RMCC / Photo: Peter Krausgrill / Stadtleben)

Summer School for Early Career Researchers
|
|
From 24 th–25 th July 2025, this year’s Summer School will bring together Early Career Researchers for two intensive days of training in scientific communication and storytelling. In collaboration with professional trainers from the Science Slam team, participants will explore how to present complex research clearly, engagingly, and confidently – whether in scientific talks or broader public contexts. The Summer School offers a space to practise, reflect, and grow – while connecting with fellow researchers across the programme. The event takes place at the Caritashaus in Freiburg. Further details and registration are available on our website.

The Midterm Meeting took place in Freiburg on 25 th–26 th March, bringing together over 50 researchers from all sub-projects. For the first time, the group met across two days in a lunch-to-lunch format, creating ample time for in-depth discussions and networking. Participants shared project updates, research achievements, and ideas for future collaboration. Highlights included a keynote by Prof Elmar Kotter on “AI systems in routine radiology”, a presentation by Dr Moon Kim on the RACOON data platform – and presentations and posters outlining the progress of each project. A joint dinner on the first evening rounded off the programme and provided an informal setting to strengthen connections and inspire new collaborations. Check out the Radiomics website for a full recap and explore the event’s picture gallery. The presentations are available for download by members of the sub-projects in the website’s designated members’ area.
