Dear SPP colleagues,
As we move through the late summer, the SPP is entering the final months of its second funding phase. While the first projects are beginning to approach their final milestones and others continue into next year, the programme remains a vibrant source of scientific output and collaboration across the consortium.
In this issue, we invite you to register for the SPP Final Meeting, taking place on 20th–21st October 2026 in Berlin. As the concluding meeting of the programme, it will bring together members from both funding phases and representatives of the DFG for two days of scientific exchange and reflection on the achievements of the SPP.
We also introduce our upcoming workshop on Diversity in Academia and look back at recent community activities, including the RÖKO Lunch Meeting and the Summer School for Early Career Researchers. Finally, we present selected insights from this year's Internal Progress Report, highlighting the continued development of the consortium and its scientific output.

SPP Final Meeting October 2026 |
|
The SPP Final Meeting will take place on 20th–21st October 2026 in Berlin. We are pleased to return to the Landesvertretung Baden-Württemberg, where we will once again meet in a lunch-to-lunch format over the course of two days.
Registration is open, and we are delighted that many participants have already signed up. If you have not yet registered, we kindly encourage you to do so as soon as possible. The registration deadline is 28th September 2026.

Please note: As project end dates vary across the programme, participation in the Final Meeting does not replace the submission of individual final reports. Additional information regarding reporting requirements will be provided at a later stage.

Workshop: Diversity in Academia |
|
Join our upcoming online workshop on 5th November 2026 to explore the principles of diversity management in academic settings. Through expert input, case studies, and interactive discussions, participants will examine opportunities and challenges of diverse research teams while gaining practical strategies for diversity-sensitive collaboration and leadership in everyday academic practice. The workshop also includes a brief excursion into the topic of diversity and AI. Please register on our website. |

Summer School
In June 2026, the fourth Summer School brought together ten early career researchers from across the SPP for two days dedicated to career development.
Combining expert input with self-reflection, practical exercises, role plays, and group discussions, the programme addressed topics including career planning, personal branding, networking, interview preparation, and negotiation skills.

RÖKO Lunch Meeting
During RöKo 2026 in Leipzig, members of SPP2177 and early career researchers from the German Radiological Society came together for a joint lunch meeting.
The informal gathering provided an opportunity to connect across projects and career stages, exchange ideas, and strengthen collaborations alongside the programme. |

Once again, we would like to thank all project teams for contributing to the Internal Progress Report covering the period 04/2025 - 03/2026. The collected data provide a valuable snapshot of the current status of the programme and, over time, allow us to track its development, evolving collaborations, and scientific progress. Below, we highlight a selection of key findings from this year's report. A more detailed summary of the latest Internal Report is available in the members' area of the SPP website, providing a comprehensive overview of the programme's composition, activities, and progress. |

The scientific output of the SPP continued to grow throughout 2025. During the reporting period, consortium members published 39 peer-reviewed articles, presented 33 conference abstracts, and reported 44 additional manuscripts currently in preparation or under review, demonstrating the programme's continued scientific productivity and visibility.

With 50% of all consortium members being Early Career Researchers, young scientists continue to play a key role in the SPP. Their research covers a wide spectrum of topics, ranging from medical imaging and image analysis to AI, machine learning, and quantitative methods.
|
|
|
|
|
Collaborative networks remain a key strength of the SPP, connecting researchers across institutions, disciplines, and methodological fields. These collaborations support the exchange of expertise, data, and methods, while strengthening scientific quality and reproducibility. Beyond the SPP, members are also actively involved in national and international initiatives such as RACOON and NUM, further connecting the programme to broader research and clinical networks.
